Case Study - Education policy, in one place, with the dates that matter

Education policy is scattered across government sites and rarely says plainly when a change takes effect. The Policy Tracker collects it, summarises it, and puts the compliance date on the front.

Overview

WICHE saw the gap clearly: not a shortage of published policy, but the absence of anywhere that told you what had changed and by when you needed to act. Federal statutes, regulations, guidance, judicial actions and executive orders all live in different places, buried in formats that make effective dates hard to find.

What we built

Two structured discovery sessions with WICHE stakeholders set the content model, which mattered more here than the build. Policy only becomes useful when it is modelled the way institutions consume it: a short summary, an effective date, and the supporting links.

We built six dedicated content types covering the main categories of policy instrument, alongside the homepage, with repeatable components so the WICHE team can enter content quickly without a developer. It runs on WICHE's existing Drupal infrastructure, so there is no new platform to maintain and no integration layer to keep alive.

The outcome

Upcoming policy issues, timelines and resources sit in one destination. Short summaries, effective dates and supporting links give users the compliance action without a reading exercise. The content types and components were structured to extend, so new policy categories can be added as they emerge rather than prompting a rebuild.
